BOTTLES, BROKEN GLASSES & NEGLECT:The Mess Behind Talai at Moi University Stage

If you've ever passed by the stage area near Talai building at Moi University, you've probably noticed it the growing mess hidden in plain sight. Behind Talai, what should be a clean and peaceful spot is slowly turning into a dumpsite.

Discarded plastic bottles, broken glass, used food containers, and all kinds of waste litter the area. It's not just untidy its dangerous. The broken glass scattered on the ground poses a real risk to students and pedestrians. And with the stage being a busy zone where many gather to catch transport or take a breather between classes, the presence of all this trash is both alarming and disappointing.

The question is: how did we get here?

The problem seems to stem from a mix of poor waste management and careless disposal habits. There aren't enough bins, and even where there are, many people still choose to toss their trash on the ground. Add to that the lack of regular cleaning, and the area continues to deteriorate.

Talai and the stage area are central points of Moi University life. They should reflect the pride and discipline of the institution. Instead, they now reflect neglect but it doesn't have to stay that way.

It's time for change. Whether it's by pushing for better waste disposal infrastructure, organizing student-led cleanup activities, or simply choosing to hold onto our trash until we find a bin every action matters.

Lets clean up behind Talai. For our health. For our safety.  the image of Moi University.

  1. This is such an important observation Purity. As students, we all have a role to play in keeping our campus clean and safe. It's sad to see such a central place being neglected, yet it represents the heart of student life. I support the call for change let’s push for better waste management and take personal responsibility. A clean Talai is a reflection of who we are as Moi University students.
