FINDING YOUR PURPOSE : GIBSON MUTAI STORY

Before lectures even began, Gibson Mutai  driven by his passion for media ,was already finding his way into the radio station he had heard about. While other students were still finding their way around campus, Gibson had already found his voice at MU FM, the Moi University's radio station.

Now in his final year, Gibson Mutai is studying LMC that is  Linguistics, Media, and Communication. From his first year, being in school was never just about academics,for him, it was about finding purpose. He applied what was taught in class by not just writing lecture notes, but putting theory into action. Gibson has been involved in broadcasting new bulletins at MU FM, scriptwriting for his blog and online channels, of which it keeps people informed , not only within campus but beyond it.

Gibson’s passion for media didn’t start in university, it began back then in high school. He was well known for his news reporting and was often recognized as a talented writer and presenter in his school. His curiosity drove him to collect news, write stories, and deliver them confidently. So when he joined Moi University in 2021, he was not just looking for academic growth but he was chasing opportunities. And he found it when he joined MU FM.

He was a very active student, and that bold step paid off. He created content across multiple platforms that is YouTube, TikTok, Instagram, WhatsApp Channels, and Twitter (@gibsonmutai). His channels grew and are still growing. Beyond building his platforms, he also became a writer, an editor, and did voice-overs for many projects.

Though, the journey was never easy, Gibson embraced every challenge along the way. Like any path, content creation came with its own struggles , especially balancing classwork, radio station duties and building his personal media platforms. But he never complained. Instead, he saw each and every day as an opportunity to grow, driven by a deep thirst to learn more.

As he prepares to graduate, Gibson says he is not done growing , in fact, his journey is just beginning. He may be finishing his academic year, but his story has not ended.

By Purity Jelagat  Every day I forget to buy myself a rubber and a sharpener. I already have a pencil, but obviously, it becomes blunt after some time. Each day when I use it, I realize I need a rubber to keep my work neat because anyone can make mistakes and need something to arase them. When I get home, I always feel too lazy to go out again, even though a shop is only a few meters away. One day I told myself that it was enough, I should stop waiting  until "I have time" I decided that I would go out and finally buy the sharpener and rubber.
